My '95 530i seems to have a new trick - the oil pressure light takes longer to extinguish than previously (the old girl has 185k miles on her) and the oil level on the dipstick shows over full when the engine is cold. I have heard that there is a check valve in the oil filter housing - does anyone know if my symptoms fit the failure of this little item, and if so, what's the fix? Thanks.

Mike, the bolts that hold the oil pump in place on the V8 engines have been known to back out.

The oil pan must be pulled and the bolts re-torqued with Lock-tite and allowed to set up before driving.

The 3.5 liter engine has been known for the canister check valve problem of leaking back down into the crankcase when the car sits overnight. I haven't heard of this problem with the V-8 engines.

I would get those oil pump bolts looked at as soon as possible.
