Ok you posted about gas price's What MPG do you get out of your E34
Mine 89 auto and I get 19.5 MPG around town 50-80 kmh.

Have not had It long enough to tell you the MPG on the open road is.

I normaly don't think in MPG.

Can I change the comp in the car to read KM PER L????

12.6 l per 100 kms easy round town with some "freeway".If you look at the obc there is abutton that swaps between metric and imperial...but it will swap all units ie temp will be deg c,distance will be km,consumption litres per 100km

according to computer, ~20mpg with city/highway driving. Highway only ~25 and city only is ~ 15..depending on which lead weight I stick in my sock.

In my 94 540i with 136k miles on the motor: The past two tanks after installing the E.A.T. chip and trying (kinda) to drive conservatively... I'm averaging about 389 miles on 19.4 gallons, which is right around 20mpg. This involves my daily commute on construction laden freeways and a bit of city driving.

If I'm doing a pure highway drive road trip I can get about 25mpg. Not too shabby for a V8.

using "CONS1" on the OBC ...
around town about 19.5
to work and back (31 miles each way at peak times) 20.5
on a long run usually about 24.5

I dont think I could get it significantly higher than this, but then again fuel economy was NOT one of the reasons I bought this car !

However, its going to be interesting to see how the EAT chip affects the figures, will it improve mpg or just encourage me to floor the throttle more ?

I set "CONS2" to zero when I got the car at 97k and haven't reset it, it shows 20.6 now.

(these are all miles per imperial gallon - not US)

I get 26 mpg (9 l/100 km) highway or 13 mpg (18 l/100 km) city driving (short routes, a lot of traffic lights).

My car is a '92 525i manual.

From computer, only reset for battery disconnects, 23.5 mpg overall. Driving is mixed - town & highway.

Highway 27.7 mpg over flat 80 mile distance (I do the same route often going 75-80 mph).

Quite pleased!

My MPG computer consistently shows 21.1 for a combination city and highway. I was hoping for more with the 2.5 liter, oh well.

I get about 17.5 on the OBC for mostly city driving. 25 on the highway cruising at about 80.

avg 21 mpg combined city/hwy. with the 3:64 mileage drops above 80mph ...and who drives that slow on the highway. Mileage is up a bit in the city but the last 5 tankfuls average right around 21.

I'm at about 19.8mpg at the moment, maybe 65% hgwy/35% city. That'll probably come down in a couple months between the AC and "enthusiastic" driving :)

~ 22hwy, anything between 15 and 20 (earlier today) around town. The 15 is because I punch it from stop signs a lot, and then have to stop quickly for Grandma and her blue Buick pulling out in front of me.

92 525iA with 162,000 miles on the clock, all stock (including dry rotting tires :)), and premium fuel = 15.6 - 17.8mpg (city) and 29mpg (highway).

Everyone... please post/edit-in your OBC avg speed also -- so we can relate directly to each other!

Saying you do mostly city, yada, yada, does not help. I do a 10 mile stretch at 70MPH but at each end it is stop and go and wait. Avg MPH will tell us more.

Soooo...

150 mile per day commute, avg speed 37.5 and I'm pulling 23.5mpg....not to bad for a V8 with 220k+......damn, I love this car!

EAT chipped city (ave 24-28 mph) from 16-18mpg, without EAT about 1.5-2mpg less.
EAT chipped hwy (ave 60-70 mph) from 23-25mpg, without EAT, up to 24mpg.

18-19 MPG city, avg speed is 25-30mph by OBC.

best i could do on the highway was about 27mpg at 70-75mph

one day i'll get an EAT chip and and hopfully that'll help.. i also noticed stripping my trunk reduces weight quite a bit. the truck carpet is wood backed and that full sized spare weighs a ton. if i never fill up past 1/2 way it goes up as well...

anyone have any interesting weight saving tips? for speed as well as economy. theres the spare, jack, tool kit, truck carpeting, floor mats, various insulation...

93 525 auto - I get 22.8 average according to the onboard computer. However, I live in Florida and it's flat as hell here - the only hills are freeway overpasses.

The Beast is EAT-chipped and I run Premium (91-92) gas:

CITY -- 12.2L/100km (20 mpg US) at 40km/h (25 mph) avg.

HWY -- 8.9L/100km (27 mpg US) at 100km/h (60 mph) avg.
9.2L/100km (26 mpg US) at 125km/h (75 mph) avg.
9.6L/100km (25 mpg US) at 150km/h (90 mph) avg.

I'm very impressed with the mileage the Beast gets...the 6-speed is quite nice, at 100km/h (60mph) the motor is turning about 1950rpm. Downshift from 6th up/over to 3rd will put me at ~4500 and the acceleration is phenomenal (as is the fuel consumption then... :D )

Cheers,
Duey

is the traffic in my place really bad or my car drinks a lot of gas?

Pong,

I am with you. In the small rural town I live I get about 11 mpg in town, but my avarage speed is a whapping 8 mph. So I get right at 200 mile to a tank. On the highway, 70 miles between towns on I-80, (driving 75-80 mph, average 60) I get 21mpg.

These are figures from the OBC.

See Ya..........

22.2 mpg with an average speed of 24 mph

With solid freeway driving I can turn in about 28mpg, but LA traffic quickly drops that down.

When my O2 sensor failed I went down to around 16mpg.
