It certainly keeps creeping up here in Miami. Today I filled up my 14 gallon tank in the PT Cruiser with regular @ $2.09/gal. Premium runs about $2.25/gal around town. Gee.....I can hardly wait 'til the summer increases! :(
I hear that So.Cal is getting insane.....at least for us spoiled Americans! :p

What is everyone paying these days?

Too....freaking...much.

Best I could do last time I gassed up was $1.99 at a VA Exxon off of 77. The day before, it was $2.05 at an OH (in Cleveland) Exxon. Got ~ 450 miles out of the tank @ ~ 21.5mpg, I use regular 87.

These traders in the oil markets are having a field day....."Oops! someone FARTED the wrong way in Venezuela today....Give me more money for my oil!"

Time for a new fuel...

best, whit

wow....if they're artificially keeping gas prices in miami that low....which part of miami, good part or bad part? orlando is about 206 if you shop around. gainesville is 2.09 for dirt cheapest--helga costs 2.30 during the week, and one cent over plus during the weekend (price matching).

About $2.18 for premium in Jacksonville, FL. This was at Chevron - not the cheapest in town, but seems to make my engine run a little smoother.

2.41 for costco gas today. at the chevron i usually go to, i believe it was 2.49. Premium 91 of course. I wish I had your guy's gas prices. Cheapest I know of is like 2.35 at arco. Higest I saw today was 2.59 or 2.69, I dont remember which one =x.

Compared to what we pay in Australia. Your gas is still very cheap. 91 RON unleaded goes for about AUS$1 per litre to about AUS$1.15 for 98 RON.

Here's what I came up with;
US$2 = AUS$2.55 approx

1 gallon = 4.5 Liters

That makes it around AUS$0.57 per liter

Goto the UK and watch your wallet empty faster than your fuel tank!

91 octane, $2.30 a gallon. Gotta love Orange County, california. Greedy bastards.

Here in the heart of Los Angeles, I've been paying the following:

2/24/05 13.5 gallons @ 2.32 per for a total of $31.44
3/3/05 12.8 gallons @ 2.40 per for a total of $30.70
3/10/05 12.1 gallons @ 2.40 for a total of $28.98

I imagine that I'll be paying closer to $3 a gallon by the time summer is over. All in all, it doesn't affect me too much, as I either spend $80 a month on my car (when gas is cheap) or $120 like I do now. The wife's car costs me about $40 a month. If course, I'd rather pay less but I notice an even bigger difference in my gas purchases when I get 28 MPG on an open freeway vs. 17 MPG on the city streets dodging buses and stopping for unsynchronized lights!

You could look at gas prices this way.... the higher they go, the less premium costs as a percentage of the difference between cheep stuff and premium.

Example

Lets say gas is $1.00 a gallon, that means that in most places premium is $1.20, the difference between the two (1.20-1.00=.20) so your paying 20 more cents a gallon, well 20 cents to every dollar is 20%... So you can look at it like this.... your paying 20 percent more per gallon to put premium in your car.

Now that we have that figured out, how do the numbers look at $2.00 a gallon, assume $2.20 for premium, difference is 20 cents again.... however 20 cents out of 2 dollars is only a 10% increase in price. So when gas is $2.00 a gallon, it ONLY costs 10 percent more to fill up with premium!

Here is the best part! The higher that gas prices go, assuming that 20 cent difference between regular and premium, the percentage keeps getting smaller!

And all you guys were being so negative..... ;)

Remember US gallons are smaller than imperial gallons

1 x U.S. Gallon = 3.785 litres
1 x Imperial Gallon = 4.546 litres
1 x Aussie Dollar = $0.78 USD

Gas prices here at the moment are around $1.05 AUD per litre.

That's equivelant to $3.10 USD per U.S. gallon... damn cheap compared to Europe. Try England at $6.15 USD per U.S. gallon!!!

US 1.20/Liter x 3.785 = per US gallon US $ 4.54 in Tokyo/Japan for socalled High Octane fuel or Super called in other countries, "Regular" .10 $ less/Liter.

seriously though... last fill up was $2.34gal for premium at the Chevron, and next week I'm guessing it will be $2.45gal when I fill up at the same place.

This really sucks, but we still have the best fuel prices worldwide... so I guess we shouldn't complain too much. But I was used to getting 28-30mpg, and I just took the downgrade to 20mpg. (but at least I'm riding in E34 V8 style :D)

In England it varies, but we generally have to pay about £0.79 per litre for ordinary Unleaded
= £3.59 per Imperial gallon (= USD6.90 = AUD8.73)
= £2.99 per US gallon (= USD5.75 = AUD7.27)

This means that to fill up costs me up to £63 :(
... so you people should stop complaining ? :)

Some cars here need the Super Unleaded at about £0.85 per litre
= £3.86 per Imperial gallon (= USD7.43 = AUD9.39)
= £2.99 per US gallon (= USD6.19 = AUD7.82)

It kind of proves the old saying... "It's what the market will bear."
World prices, whilst of course effected by supply & demand (often artificially.. read OPEC!) are also influenced by the local 'median affordibility factor'. Of course the average per capita wage will be a major determining factor. If they charged $2.00 per gallon in Venezuala many would be unable to afford drive a car period... too few customers. Charge too little, many customers but at the expense of profit margin. Somewhere in between is that median figure. Of course much of what we pay at the pump is also taxed to hell so the government plays a large part in the final price. (over 50% tax on petrol here!) Obviously that median figure is around $2.00 per gal in the U.S. and $0.19c per gallon in Venezuala. That's why rich westerners (at least rich by third world standards) like holidaying in poor countries. Best bang for their buck! Also the best opportunity for the locals to try and rip off the affluent honky white trash... or if the honky white trash is stupid enough he gets himself mugged or kidnapped and held for ransom! :D

I used to work for a telecommications company during the I.T. boom in the late '90s. Spent nearly three years travelling both within Australia and overseas. Heard many scary stories about western contractors getting themselves into trouble whilst overseas. ie. Mexico, South America, parts of Africa. etc.

A friend of a British telco contractor I met on a job in Mexico was kidnapped in Georgia, Russia about eight years ago. His kidnappers demanded something like $3 million from his company for his release. I don't know whether they paid it or nor but they eventually found his body... minus head! I learnt to be discreet when travelling in some places! :(

BTW - The fuel in Mexico was pretty bad. Low octane, along with the high altitude, (thin air) & low compression engines... not exactly a recipe for high performance motoring!

in the country market, being a huge oil producer/exporter, government takes the looses from the profits of exports. Oil business is handled by government here.

Remember we now have a subtle form of a popular dictator in Venezuela, so he pushes to rise prices internationally so he can sustain the huge internal expenses needed to maintain some popularity, and keep total control of the institutions trough money gratifications. Rising gas prices will be some sort of suicide.

Yes guys, Venezuelan president is one of the culprits of this crazy oil market, that are benefiting Venezuelan people in the short term, but will bring hell later on.

Filled up yesterday for $1.999/gal in MN. Wouldn't mind paying half that price like I did a few years ago.

All of you Europeans and Aussies that are complaining about high prices dont really pay that much more for the gas...you are just paying excessively high taxes on top of the actual cost of the gas. You ought to get somebody elected to your government that has the sensibility to cut your gas taxes to a more reasonable level, but thats not the way it works there... too many socialists to be able to succeed with that idea.

n anopther note, the gas stations are making less money now than they did back when it was 1.25 a gallon. We were actually getting ripped off when it was 1.25. They were making a killing, oil was cheap Now when you pay with a credit card at the pump there's a good chance that they lost money.

Here in Central Illinois the gas prices are $2.29 @ gallon for Amoco 93 premium. If you consider everything being relative, then by standards of even 10 years ago, it hasn't risen that much.

The prices would drop like a rock if someone threatened a serious alternate fuel. BMW and the hydrogen fuel program must accelerate this process so we won't be dependent on foreign oil. Take away the leverage the oil control and they'll be forced to eat sand. The main problem with this theory is as soon as someone makes this alternative fuel possible, the oil prices would drop and discourage alternate fuel use. Looks like they have us over a barrel....=)

Didn't I read somewhere that all BMW's were capable of running hydrogen fuel with just a few additions/adjustments??? Something the engineers thought of years ago?

paid $2.139 per gallon of 93 for a total of $38 at Sam's in Winstnon-Salem.

What gets me isn't the price its how the price differs by area. I just checked gasbuddy.com and found that gas in G'boro is .10-.20 cheaper! What the heck! It's not like it takes that much more effort to drive the truck a few miles west.

In the area where my wife and I live (near the mall in Winston) Sam's is the cheapest thing around. However, head over towards Wake Forest Univ (near where I work) and the Shell V-Power is $2.15 a gallon!

I read a report awhile back that stated that the oil companies are keeping the surplus levels low by refining less crude thus pushing the prices higher. I reckon that that in conjunction with the "Stable" situation in the Middle East is helping those prices creep ever higher. I am starting to miss my Civic (just a tad and only at the pump)

Don't know about that. But a buddy of mine in the Health Dept. told me that while Hydrogen is a clean fuel, right now the processing it takes to make the liquid hydrogen negates the benefits of burning it.

On the other hand I've always wanted a set of water wheels. :)

Here in Dubai I pay AED 4.00 / gallon = USD 1.10 / gallon (yes that's 4 litres) for 95 octane (lowest octane available here) and AED 5.00 /gallon = USD 1.40 for 98 octane "Super / Premium" some of you might find it relatively cheap compared to your parts but let me also tell u that the price of petrol has gone up by approx. 30-35% mostly cause they have phased out leaded fuel completely in the last 2 years (most likely more rate hikes to come), prior to that it was the same for the last 20-23 odd years that I've lived here.

Well they made that fleet of hydrogen powered 7's a while ago, and iirc they did very little modification, mainly (obviously) just the fuel delivery system. but otherwise i think its still air and a spark.

If you lived off grid and already had a solar/wind system setup it probably wouldn't be that hard to make your own hydrogen. storing it would be the problem. i'd try it.. having my house be a gas station would be very cool.

I know its relatively cheap compared to the world. Maybe if gas prices were 6/gal here, people would stop driving 2 blocks to pick something up at the corner store.
