Not sure I'd like them, I'm not too keen on the more common crystal lights where the reverse lights and indicators form on clear strip along the middle. I think the part of the light fitted to the boot is too long on the E34 for those to work well (they're based on the E46 style which has much shorter boot lights).

These ones are the same design in terms of light location as the original lights, except with the crystal effect. Could make the car more modern from the back if it looks reasonably "original".

Here are the other style of lights I'm talking about, I've seen a pic of these installed and I'm not too keen:

i like the normal clears the best, the ones you posted make the car wrong IMO.

Hi Paul,

I am in two minds about the crystal lights. the "newer" one you have shown with the lighting as it "should" be seems a much better answer. I would like to see a led version with clears and reds as the original e34. I think that coupled with clear led side markers and clear led front turn signals would be awsome...just a thought tho..mabe it wouldn't...

I haven't seen the first ones before but I'd consider buying them, I'd have to see them fitted on a car first though. The reverse light looks a little weird tho.. Do you know who makes them? I want to replace my smoked hella lights with clears, but most normal clears only come with the outer lights as you should already have red inner lights.. But my inner lights are black so those crystals would be ideal.
Don't like the second ones at all.

'Crystal' lamps look god-awful on E34s.

Er.. Most cars.

Okay, all cars.

I think the forum should have a quarantined section for 'Bling' mods completely separate from threads with taste! :D

Better still sell the Bimmer and buy a Riceburner. Then you can 'BLING' yourself to death!!

LOL, I guess the verdict is a resounding "no" then ;)

I think the crystal effect look fine on the E46, although it was designed with them. They're far less hideous than the Lexus style lights every clapped-out boy racer car seems to be sporting these days :)

PS The crystal lights are available on eBay, usually around $180.

Paul, I'd have to see the top one you showed...maybe if there was a straight-on shot, someone could chop them onto an E34.

For me...anything else says "Volvo"...*eek*

Cheers,

Well, I have had both of those style lights. I had the earlier style crystal lights for a year, but never fully liked them, plus they were constantly giving me problems. They just looked too Japanese to me. But when I got the newer inpro design tail lights, I was much happier. They remind me of the tail lights on my mother's new X5. They are of better quality too. I think the Japanese looking ones are Esdepo anyway, not Inpro. The new ones do look amazing. -- Mike

I got a reply from in.pro., they don't make 'em. Only the ones with the clear part in the middle and the traditional clears.

Call me rice, but I like em. I had posted this question b4 on the forum but I appreciate I can finally see an installed picture now. The crystal/jeweled look is clean to me. I have Hella clears with a light smoke on just the turn signal which is a look I love. At the time I bought them (2 yrs ago) I had wished the jewel design was available. That other design where the turnsignal is ala E46 is yuck even though it is a crystal design too. Keeping the original E34 arrangement with an updated crystal look gives the car a fresh look. I also see that crystal front corners are more readily available too (I only saw them previously on a German site). I wonder what they look like. I am used to the problem-free quality of my Hellas. Any problems with leaking/condensation etc. with these aftermaket tail-lights? What sucks is that I have already invested quite a lot on my lenses and I wish I could change em, but all this adds up $$ that can be spent on more meaningful mods for me.
