525/m50 Running sluggish and gas smell

My 94 525 w/m50 is running a little sluggish and i notice a fuel smell when I get out of the car. Are yhese problems related or coincidence? The car has 165k on it.

I'd check fuel pressure. If you don't have a way to do that, visually inspect all fuel lines. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

stomp test is due, you might want to disconnect the battery for a while to clear any codes after that. If you do get codes its probably going to indicate an O2 sensor. Reboot the battery and try again. If it persistes then follow up.
