Actually, this is about 15 minutes from my house. About 5 minutes away, there was a big drug bust in Del Mar, a very wealthy part of San Diego. They got their first tips thru the power usage, then watched the home... arrested 15 people, and a few at the same time, in New York. They were growing engineered, hydroponic marijuana, twice as strong as the usual stuff you get around here (which is hydro and pretty strong in its own right).
I'm surprised our neighbors haven't called my friends and I in yet for smoking my hooka out back (nothing illegal in there, I'm very careful about that)
I'm in Carlsbad and read that in the paper as well. Teach those damn kids how to turn off the lights!!!
yea, this technique is nothing new. i remember hearing agencies searching for houses with extraordinary high electric bills in the early 90's. some drug labs will use a lot of microwaves to manufacture certain drugs.
Or using infrared cams on suspect homes to see how much "light" there was inside. NG had an article on cameras/imaging not too long ago, it's pretty wild what they can see if they want to now.
