Default first time with a floor jack and stands

I know jacking points have been talked about many times here but I can't find the posts. I'm using a floor jack for the first time and stands instead of using that little factory jack to swap the snow tires and eventually change the trans fluid. Can anybody help me out? Remember to dumb it down a little Thanks

Position the floor jack under the differential. The jack stands are placed at the same position as the factory jack. If you're worry about scratching the car. fold some newspaper into a 3"x4" pad and place it between the jack and the underside of the car.

Won't jacking up under the diff mess up the diff mount? I know it will on E28s and I can't see them being that different.

I been using the cross member just behind the engine with the floor jack and the factory positions for the jack stands.

    Default DUDE! What the fÜk??????????????

    DO NOT USE the differential!!!

DO NOT USE the front crossmember!!

Use the factory points to raise the car, you can however use the frame behind the jack points for the stands, preferrably with a block of wood.

Glen-SJ No offence here at all but what the fÜk are you telling this guy???

The front cross brace is not intended to lift the car, not even close. Nice way to mess the whole front end in my oppinion.

Jacking on the differential can and in most cases mess the $shit out of the brackets and mounts, another non intended purpose.

Glen, please do yourself a favor and read Brunos site and when your done read it all again before you tell someone how to mess up their car. I do not mean to offend you but I just cant tell if you are messing with scott or just don't know the proper procedures.

Again I dont mean to offend you.

Maybe I'm wrong here but I doubt it.

Thanks Jeff, even I knew that sounded wrong. So what you're saying is that even with floor jack, I still have to jack up each corner individually. I can't just raise the whole front end up or the whole back end at once right? Still faster and less nerve wracking than using that thing in the trunk I guess

    Default Lol

that thing in the trunk is useless on mine, it will crush the door way before the car raises, I went out and got AAA incase i get a flat. Maybe my jack is jacked? Never used and it will never be used as far as I am concerned.

As for jacking the front and back all at once, I'm not sure. I lift it at the points with one of the floorjack "tangs" in the stock jack position so that it doesnt slide out when lifting. I tried a 2x4 a couple times but it was too scary, seemed like it could pop off at any time.

Just go slow and careful, do not jack from the frame part without a chunk of 2x4, that also goes for the stands. The frame part is not thick enough IMO for that. Maybe Glen can see if it works first. Id still stick to 1 point at a time until we here different from others.

That's pretty good! I've used the trunk jack before. Always scares the hell outta me. I changed a flat on the I-94 ramp heading out of downtown Minneapolis once. I swear I did it in 10 minutes. Scared of the car falling and getting hit by the busses that use the shoulder during rush hour. just got impact sockets frm harbor freight. See how they work. Now I just need some weather

Not trying to mislead anyone here. I was somewhat skeptic at first after reading the same from others on this site and after knowing first hand from others that have done so. I been using this method for a few years now with no adverse effect. I just could not find any mention on this on Bruno's site.
