And they've got the FDA in their pocket. Going so far as to help them out. The FDA should be after the drug companies to reduce their prices instead of people who are obtaining their drugs in Canada and Mexico. If the drug companies can sell their drugs cheaper in Canada and Mexico they should also be able to reduce their prices in the US.Originally Posted by Bill R.

Many of these drugs are actually manufactured in the U.S., purchased and imported by Canadian distributors, then a domestic excess is available to be resold into the U.S. still for much less than the US distributors are charging Americans at home for drugs that have never been exported and re-imported into the country...???
Canadian distributors, for as "nice" as we Canucks are, don't do this for free and charge accordingly to make a profit from our American customers to the South. And yet this is still 30-75% cheaper than original domestic drugs????
Doesn't this mean that Americans are getting totally screwed for purchasing their own horribly over-priced domestically-produced drugs?
The EPA "interim" solution would appear to be to shut down all cross-border sales from Canada to the U.S., but that will only serve to disadvantage many Americans living on fixed or reduced incomes who can't afford full/majority-deductible health insurance/drug plan coverage. That doesn't address the heart of the issue...
How can the U.S. drug co.'s be allowed to so blatantly over-charge for drugs?

I hate the high cost of drugs just as much as you - but I have one question - how are the drug companies supposed to pay for the YEARS of research and testing that has to happen prior to a drug coming to market?Originally Posted by Bill R.
do on research and development costs, and they currently are collecting record profits in an industry which has one of the highest profit margins of any ... I don't think that they are having any problems at all paying for the years of research and development..

Terry, not to provide a snide answer, but it would seem they recoup costs (and then some) by charging whatever various markets will pay. It seems that it is the domestic US market willing to pay the mostOriginally Posted by Terry B
Bill R., do you have any links to Monsanto's latest hijinks with GM-canola and Round Up? (another self-developed monopoly that until recently, many farmes were unwilling to tackle...Monsanto has the "divide and conquer" down to a fine art...although they have been taking hits recently...)

Thankfully, I presently don't have to pay that personally but if I did, that's what it would cost.
Americans pay for large marketing and sales campaigns while the rest of the world doesn't. its how the US works in every sector.
