    Default Steering Wheel Fitment (again)

    Hey guys...

I need to replace my steering wheel - I've been searching and still can't figure out which wheels will fit my car.

My car is a 1992 Airbag equipped 535 with the 4 spoke wheel. I would like to replace the wheel with another airbag equipped wheel... the question is which other model BMW wheels will fit my car?

I know that the early E34's had a 22mm nut, whereas later models had a bolt. Other than that... I don't have a clue.

Is there a guide to what will fit and what won't?

Can I swap the actual airbag from my wheel to a replacement?

I've swapped M3 steering wheels from E36 models into my 94 540i and 92 525iT. I used the original airbag on the 540 because it fit better. No problems hooking them up. I understand that E36 will fit and some of the Z3 also. The M3 steering wheels are just slightly smaller and maybe a millemeter or two thicker.

Your car has Single Stage airbag which fits, E36 models wheels will fit including the E36M3 wheel which is very nice.

If you want to do serious surgery, the E46 wheel can fit but you will need your own airbag as the E46 airbag is a dual-stage unit and will NOT work. I have done this here:

    I used a E46 330i wheel and my own "95 airbag.
