Hello...
I just recently picked up my second BMW...a 1991 535i. (I owned a 93 525i automatic years ago and I always wanted another one.) It has 74k miles on it.
It seems as if the rpm's are aweful high in comparison to my 525i. At 60mph, the rpm is at about 2500 rpm's. Is that high, or just how all the 535i automatics are. I'm sure my 525i was not quite that high. Any thoughts/can anyone give me an example of their rpms on a 535?
Thanks,
hpipe
P.S. First day on the board...i like it!
ya that sounds about right. my 90 535i with automatic runs 3000 rpms at 80 Mph
6200 at 120-125 in S3
all america wants is cold beer warm pussy and a place to take a shit with a door on it
Thanks for the rpm stats...I just wanted to make sure I didn't have any tranny problems!
Thanks again,
hpipe
serves you correct. my slushbox 525i (a 92) turns over a little more than 2000 to do 55. you have nothing at all wrong.
I have a 91' 535i auto and it runs near 3400rpm at 80 mphOriginally Posted by hpipe

Check to see if you have the sport version vs the standard 535i. The 535i sport sits about an inch to inch+ lower front and back and comes with a higher numeric ratio rear end which will result in about 350-400 more rpm at same speeds if I recall correctly. Bentley E-34 manual has explanation on the suspension and diff differences between the two, Not many sports built and sold. I had a'92 535i that was sport. With both Dinan chips, K&N and other goodies it was a handful for most 6 cycliner cars and the 530 (E34) didn't do so well against it either. Still around (friend owns it) now converted to 5 speed and is quite a handfull...Originally Posted by hpipe
