My shifter feels "notchy" lately. It's almost as if there are "steps" of sort when Im shifting gears, especially 3rd and 4th it seems. The car has a lot of miles on it, do I need to rebuild my linkage? Perhaps it is the fluid (Redline MTL)? Or the weather (below freezing here in Jersey)? Any input would be appreciated.

I was advised earlier that using ATF would allow for smoother shifts compared to Redline MTL, especially in cold weather.
I changed my 6-sp fluid last summer for MTL. I suspect it had ATF in it before that. As winter approached, the shifting became notchier, especially trying to get into 2nd. I just picked up some Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF today and will pop it in when this cold weather passes Southern Ontario...I hate working in a garage when I can see my own breath!Originally Posted by Mike

Try Redline MTL.It's synthetic.
Ditto - I went with MTL last fall and loved it, until morning temps got below about 25F. Then second gear became tough to choose until the tranny was warm. Switching (again) to Redline's D4-ATF made things nicer all around. Choose a decent name-brand synthetic ATF and you will probably be quite happy.
I switched from RedLine MTL to Mobil 1 ATF over the summer. It made an immediate difference, which has only become even more pronounced now that it ain't warm out any more here in NJ.

I gotta agree...I am running Redline D4-ATF in my tranny and it shifts the same at -5 and 70. Well worth the extra money IMHO.Originally Posted by DrewZ
