I changed my 6-sp's fluid back in the fall to Redline MTL. At first shifting seemed to improve. Then it started to get notchy, in particular 2nd gear. In the cold weather (especially this -25c stuff we had in Southern Ontario recently) the notchiness was particularly bad.
What are other manual trans guys using? I was thinking of either trying Redline D4ATF or Mobil Synthetic ATF? Any other suggestions?
Cheers!
not sure how mtl does in the later cars, it works wonders in a e30, rebuild in a can
all america wants is cold beer warm pussy and a place to take a shit with a door on it
Over the summer, I switched from MTL to Mobil 1 ATF. This winter, the cold shifting is MUCH smoother than it was last winter with MTL. Folks on the E34 M5 mailing list also recommend adding a few spoonfuls of molybdenum sulfide powder to the trans fluid.Originally Posted by DueyT

Thanks gents. I don't have a problem changing fluids and see what works best. I'll go for Mobil 1 ATF at first, as it's a bit more avail than Redline.
Cheers!
A lot of older MR2 owners swear by it (notoriously difficult shifting car due to synchro wear and very funky shift linkage).
Redline also makes lighter synth gear oils than MTL...

I swapped out both tranny and PS fluid in my 525i for Mobil1 Synthetic ATF.
Here in the sunny Midwestthe GQ starts up and runs just fine in VERY low temps....
