    Default Traction Control Help please?

I have a 1994 BMW 740i. A weird noise began yesterday, and I am very concerned about it. The nearest that I can describe it is akin to a grinder running but nothing against it, or maybe a wetstone wheel spinning. When I accelerate or even increase the throttle in park, the noise increases, and dies back down to a slow spinning when I idle down. When I approach 50mph, the noise suddenly stops and the Traction Control? light - in between speedometer and tachometer, triangle with exclamation point inside and a circular arrow surrounding - comes on. What could this be? Is the vehicle safe to operate until I can get it in for repair or is it something vital

2nd owner - well maintained, almost mint cond. 145998 miles.
Only previous problems: Dry-rotted coolant hoses, front alignment, ran out of fuel once. Previous problems fixed. Check Engine light has been lit since fuel ran out. Haven't reset yet.

Default Traction / Steering Lubrication system?

As an update, while the engine is running, oily fluid is shooting out of a hose underneath the fan, at the point where the metal sheath seems to the hose. Item # 3 in the following diagram.

I can also feel a serious vibration from a hose coming out of the bottom of the "power steering/stability control" reservoir, #24 in the above diagram. What I do not understand is I have perfect steering, and the check control comes back ok. I obviously need to replace this leaking hose, but is that the problem or could it be further?

ask here, there are the E32 experts

Get another hose. They are pressure hoses, not only simple hoses

At the dealer they are pretty expensive, what you could try to find a hydraulic repair shop which also repairs hydraulic hoses for earth shovels and construction machinery. They grind off the sleeve which holds the rubber into the metal pipe and insert a new high pressure hydraulic hosse and a new crimp sleeve and that is pressed in a big crimp press.

The gringding noise comes from the power steering pump because of the leak, as you do not have enough power steering fluid in the container. Refill the fluid reservoir with the proper stuff.

The check control is probably to be seen in connection with that leak, as the power steering has some problems.

Thank you Shogun, I am thinking that is my exact problem. and the diagram you link to is exactly as mine. I will look into the hydraulic repair, that may be far simpler to taking it to BMW.

As for the fluid, my owners manual does not tell me and I cannot seem to locate the correct fluid on the net. I will ask my mechanic today.

I attempted to check the status through the computer, but it only reads Check Control OK. Why would it not register this problem?

    Thanks again!
