Default Finally: Write up/Instructions on the Sachs kit install.

    To all those so inclined:

I've created a writeup on my sachs kit install. It's an easy Saturday afternoon task if you've got the right tools. My motivation in doing this was twofold: 1) to assimilate into a single document everything that I've learned regarding the shocks/struts in early e34's so that one could competently do this job, 2) to prove that even the average guy with rudimentary technological facility could easily do this job.

Please tell me if you see any errors - my intent is accuracy, not sentiment.

    EDIT:

PDF: (pictures included - low res) -

HTML (latest text, but pictures won't work in IE - use Mozilla ) -

Excellent write-up, easy to read, and very interesting !
... it may be my PC, but I couldn't see any of the pics referred to in the text.

weird...unlike the other web sites I've created (usually with PHP and all sorts of other more advanced technology), I typed this into word and hit "create web page", so it's all probably microsoft's fault

All of the pictures are in:

    http://www.statch.com/users/wlowel/e34suspension_files/

Will someone else confirm that the pictures are, in fact, not coming up?

EDIT: it's because I use MOZILLA, and cut out all of the IE specific tags...sigh. I'll fix that up.

    best, whit

Whit- this write up is GREAT!!! I can't tell you how much this will probly assist me when I attempt to install my kit. =).

So, No lower spring pad for the rears? The springs settle on the metal spring pans?
~ And the rears have to be under load when installing that 22mm bolt? soo...drive it up some ramps? hehe.

Yes, but be careful when driving it backwards up the ramps. Doing it without a spotter, I had my foot on the gas and brake at the same time, and I ran off of the back - $#@%!!! - thankfully, didn't break anything. I would finger tighten the rear 22mm's first. And no lower spring pads on the rears. Good luck! best, whit
