    Default CHARGE MYSTERY help!

    91 525i YES THIS WILL ALL SOUND FAMILIAR But.......

    Having that very common problem with the ALT/BATT/DIM LIGHTS/TRAnS PROGRAM etc...... I have read a ton of posts about this but
    HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS????????

    across the battery posts....around 12 v (normal) w/car off
    start the car.....A MISERABLE 11.5v (should be around 13-14 indefinitely)

    HERES where it gets good....at 2000rpm and full load (everything on)
    13-14 good voltage,but NOT every time. Turn off start again 11.5 v and that hurts cause it draining a new battery. WHEN IT DOES TEST GOOD IT ACTUALLY DOES ITS JOB TO CHARGE.
    Crazy stuff........battery is new, alt(reman 6 mos.) ago bench tested 14.2 perfect.

    Draw test .4 amp .........Bentley manual says .5 and above is unnaceptable
    What was it that was heat or time related?? diodes in the alt open up er something? If that was the case, an alt bench test for 45-90 mins should determine that right?

    your car at idle will not throw 13.5, cause first of all you drained it a bit by starting it, next its running all kinds of electronic crap. if you check the voltage at 2000rpms and its not around 13.5 EVERYTIME then I would have to say its the regulator or brushes with or without all the accessories on.

    Im using 13.5 as a minimum.

    Default What about the dash battery light?

    Is it on until you hit the pedal to 2000 RPM?

    Alt shop says nothing wrong BUT they threw me a new voltage regulator after insisting it wasn't that. I don't think they replaced it last time they just painted it!

    So far so good. Felt great to drive the lady again! been a little while.

    Was, but got voltage regulator from alt shop 4 free.so far so good
    BUT...i never see a alt light!?? isn't it supposed to come on when you turn the key? or only when it's giving out?

    Default Yes it should come on when turning the key, ..

    and should turn off when generator start pushing power, if it ever stop generating, it will turn on, and energize the un-loader relay, leaving unusable the defogger and the climate control.
