MPG read-out stuck at 99.9 - help?

1994 e32 740iL from Canada, after a battery replacement 4 weeks ago the MPG read-out on the computer goes to 0.0 when I re-set, and then jumps to 99.9 after a few seconds and stays there. Have re-set clock and date. Have filled gas tank full. Have put about 1000 km (600miles) on it since new battery.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Am selling e32 after buying e38 and would like to solve this if I can.

I have the same problem on my 535i, except mines stuck at 6.0 and if I reset it goes to 0.00 and a few seconds later back to 6.0. I've checked everything I could think of and cant figure it out.
