    Default 85-95km/hr shimmy

    Hi guys

I had a very light shimmy at around 85-95km/hr and I did a wheel balancing this evening.Unfortunately, the results are worse. Now the whole car is shaking like hell at that speed.

Unfortunately we dont have this special hunter machine for balancin the tires in my country.

Fronyt suspension status- Thrust arm bushing 6000km(lemforder), center tie rod-3months old(TRW with BMW logo on it), Swing support-three months old.

    What are my options?

Changed to my bottle cap winters and lo and behold dreaded shimmy surfaced I re balanced wheels to no avail so I tried rotation and still a shimmy. I have replaced thrust arms with 750 bushings in past, and rest of front end looks fine and other wheels and tires were fine so when I rotated front to back one side at a time found the shimmmy was minimized Man this is a pain in the a__.So I ended up with tires the way had them on last winter and shimmy was again worse...so I ended up taking the R front wheel off+ sanding mating surfaces and turning wheel 1/5 of a turn seemed to fit on easier guess what ? shimmy cured. So I thought how many of us are putting new parts on unnecessarily because of this or a mechanic that does not understand how fussy these cars are? Try all the simple things 1st my mechanic friend thought I was nuts but changed his tune when problem was cured so try, try ,try and you might luck out. Kuly 95 540

Default Same here, it's likely the mags or tires

Kuly's right, did the whole change jig, even new brake rotors, new tires, wheel balancing, slight shimmy persisted between 60-70 mph. Brought it to wheel repair specialist, who did something to the rims (he said even my spare was off). Still a very slight shimmy, brought it back, he did it again, and now vibration (if any) very slight. Good luck!

Hey.. can you please elaborate your solution? I have this exact problem and after an alignment, wheel balance, and new left front control arm i cant' seem to get rid of it. oddly, it seems to surface once in a while.. sometimes not.. sometimes between 70-80kph, sometimes 85 kph.. etc..

    help!

tires are probably out of round. you can have a perfectly balanced set, even with the hunter road balance machine unless the tech is absolutley anal about it. balance issues are 40-70mph, tire issues are 75 and up mph. and thats even with perfect hubs, no rust, etc etc.
