Whoa... that's pretty bad. Start with the basics... O2 sensors... spark plugs... oil change...
Ok, took my new to me 525it to get a smog done today and it failed! Here are the reasons. First the check engine light on the dash doesn't come on when the car is turned on. It is supossed to when the car first starts and then go off. Other part is the emissions were bad. Here are the two areas it was off.
HC (PPM)@25mph - 189 (max is 48)
CO% @25mph - .63 (max is .46)
Hopefully someone here is well learned on this subject. Oh yeah the car is a 93 and it has to use the dyno type smog device where the wheels have to roll. TIA,

ok, oil was just changed. and inspection II service was done last year within 5-6000 miles.
From personal experience oil change does a lot, not sure if it'll help you. Change your oil with synthetic (such as Mobil 1) and fill up with premium gas right before the test (I highly recomend Chevron for this).
that's not going to help with this car... emission is way off...
O2 is not part of inspection II... spark plug however is part of inspection II.
our cadillac converters are much farther away from the engine than other cars and it needs to be real hot and then pulled right in or it wont pass. Idling wont do it either.

where are you located....also do you have traction control???
my 91 had traction control...when I take it in I remove switch and tell tech that it can't be turned off...they then do a static test without putting on rollers..
I have also used the garanteed to pass emmissions stuff with success....
Regarding the warming up, ask the person who is administrating the smog test to warm it up for you. He will put it on rollers and put a nice load on the engine before pluging it into the computer.
