counter clockwise, you might have to make a "special" tool, let me see if I have one hosted somewhere for you to look at. Mine is simpler than Winfreds

The threads for that bolt are opposite turning to get off. I think it is a 34mm thin open ended wrench required, I got mine from a bicycle supply house, about 5 or 6 dollars. Put the wrench on the nut and wack with a hammer (righty loosey, this time) and it should come right off. Some have had trouble getting it off, though.
    Good luck

Default 1 1/4 inch wrench if I'm guessing correctly.

Good God, that thing looks like some kind of Orc weapon from Lord of the Rings! Forged from the fires of Mt. Doom!

I didn't need Jeff's Orc weapon/tool when I did mine. Have you tried getting the open end wrench on it and banging slightly harder than "lightly"? Remember, it is threaded opposite. Otherwise, people have tried holding the belt up a bit to tighten it while "banging" on the wrench.

    Default Mine was WAY tight,

and I had to make something quick so I took a piece of steel and made it with a drill and grinder, took a couple minutes. Tried other things like screw drivers and even clamped vicegrips on the pully (that suceeded in busting it to pieces), not recommended.
