Default how can i find out what "check engine" means

is there a way (without buying a specialized device) to see why my 93 740's "check engine" light came on this morning? like a series of things i can do to make it display an error code on the display maybe?

Default Does "stomp code" apply to a '93 740?

Here is a good thread on the issue.

More details on the stomping part.

Winfred's essential comment on this procedure (made in a different thread) was that you have to do the stomping within five seconds of turning the ignition to position 2.

Default yes, it took a bit of trying when i first got my car

to see if it works...and it did.

I think it does apply to that car.
