Default liters of fluid in a 5hp30

Hello, I just got a new transmission put in my 93 740, a 5hp30 transmission. I just got a call from the dealer and they said it took 15 liters of fluid. I thought a 5hp30 only took 8 liters and at $26/liter thats a difference of $182. Can somebody tell me for sure what it takes and maybe even provide a link to an official page for the 5hp30 that says how much fluid it takes so I can print that out and show the dealer.

8 will refill it if it is drained: but draining it does not empty it as the giganto torque converter holds alot. 14 refills it from a bone dry state.

it is right... 14L for entire fill... one or two wasted quart while filling in but they still gonna charge you on this.

I did my valve body and that sucker took nearly 13 quarts to fill up.

I am wondering what idiot decided to put in Shell LA2634 when you could have put in Esso oil instead... much cheaper... and THIS IS A BRAND NEW TRANNY!

The original poster apparently didn't... and dealer charged him 15 quarts of oil... on top of installation.

I'm just at 62.5K and have a tranny service scheduled for next week. Tranny guy is well experienced with BMW, but I was told a service vs. a power flush would only change out a minor amount of fluid. After looking at the above table, it looks like only 50% if you just change it vs. flushing out the torque converter.

My slushbox is very firm when placed in gear and as responsive and tight when driving. Should I cancel the appointment and spend that money elsewhere?
