I'd check the entire intake for vacuum leaks & adjust the valves. There is the potential for the cam timing to be off since the timing belt swap.
My 520i (M20 - 1990) Has a bad running problem. I had the cambelt changed and a service, now the car runs WORSE than before, with power loss and sometimes stuttering acceleration.
The AirFlow Meter had been mentioned, but I'm not so sure... it wasn't as bad as this before, the mechanic attempted the adjust the tappets, but they are as noisy as before could this be the problem?
Thanks in advance for any advice

aside from Martin's input, my concern would be that the cam was timed properly when the belt was replaced...maybe a cog off.

I actually found a rotting vacuum hose and sorted it, but to no avail.
I am inclined to suspect that the timing is a cog off though, looks like another strip down. Rattly tappets are a concern too, the mechanic seemed unsure how to adjust them, maybe i'll just get a mobile tuner in to sort it once and for all.
Thanks guys
RE My bad running E34
I have had a second opinion and the mechanic seems to think it could be a problem on the ignition side, so I have arranged for a mobile tuner to give it the once over.
He seemed to think the distributor cap (Maybe) was at fault....we'll see!
