I have a uk spec 520 se touring, 24 valve, recently noticed the idle goes up and down between 0-3000 rpm, there has been info on this site that it maybe the IVC needs cleaning so where is the IVC on a 520, any info muchly appreiciated.

You might also check Air Flow Meter - when mine was bad I had idle problems too.
But my car engine is M20

look for air leaks, just did one the other day that the hose from the valve cover to the airboot was rotted off causing idle problems
