Thread: package rear shelf recovering.

    Default package rear shelf recovering.

I have a 1994 E-34 530i that has the material lifting off of the package shelf.
I'm looking for replacement material to repair the problem.
The vin # is wbahe1328rge53990. The build sheet calls the interior color " SiLBERGRAU". It has a two-tone color, of a light gray on the seats and a darker gray for the headliner, dash, and tops of the door panels. The color I need is the darker of the two.
I have been going through Real OEM and they tell me it is no longer made. Where can I go now? I have only 37,000 miles and it has a 5 speed. Is this some kind of a rare automobile?

congrats, 37kmiles is really low. If you want to keep it original, maybe you contact companies which supply headliner material, for example Headliner Express is specialized also on older BMW, https://www.headlinerexpress.com/
also carpet material, best is you first get some samples and compare.

530i in a stick shift is not common, no. Most 5ers for the US market were automatic- and mot likely there were far less manual V8s than i6s; E.g. a clutch of special 540i and 530i models.

From it you can see that yours has the trim color code 0394, if that helps with the right material.

Check the options you can install on the shelf whilst you are in there, there was manual and automagic sunblinds and the 10 speaker models have plastic shells that accommodate woofers and tweeters driven by a specially equalised amplifier. Normally, to get good sound in an e34, you just install a 5 channel amp under the shelf to drive the existing speakers, and add a big subwoofer to make the best of the available resonance from the trunk

Perhaps do a VIN check to see if it was made to special order, and to get a list of everything it came with. It is possible there is a scrap of paper with the option codes under the rear seat that described the options for the factory to reference.

Thank you for all your help.
I was able to do some searching and came up with the name and phone # of the person that ordered the car.
After while talking with him , he told me that he did order this. He wanted to order a M5 but is wasn't offered when he placed the order and went with this instead.
I'm now trying to find out how many of these were made and which one I have out of the bunch.

That's great. With any aged car you want to keep, establishing provenance is very important. That's really super that you got in touch with the old owner, sometimes they are happy to chat and even share pictures or other memorbillia that you can keep with it to better complete the history and share at club meets, etc.
