Default 540 E34 trans fail mode EGS with AGS

Thought I started a thread on this new project but I can't find it. So it doesn't exist yet.

Bought this 10/95 95 540 a while back with a bad trans issue. It will go forward in 'M' mode and in 'D' it's like the trans in in reverse and forward at the same time, goes nowhere. To reverse the clutches are shuddering, low on fluid is my best guess. Didn't check yet. Dash lights are like Christmas trying to tell me something.

Any trans issue with an asc + T issue could be anything, even a low pressure tire, dirty magnetic speed sensors at the hubs etc. It is really ridiculous and I haven't really had the space to investigate. A low fluid trans with the wrong computer could be a simple fix I think.

    ====================================

I did take a pic of the trans computer 0260002321 1421968 LT which comes up as a mystery box on real oem (above). Searching the 'net comes up with all sorts of results, none would I trust.

I did cross the original that this car 'should' have
    24 601 422 025 LT is the original replacement from 11/92 - 12/95
    Was available from 12/93

    This replaces older computers
    24 611 421 658 from 3/93
    24 611 421 513 from 10/92
    24 611 421 007 from 07/92

So I am guessing my computer is for some mystery box trans that just don't work.

I will update as I move forward.

Dont you just have that typical 5HP30 check ball problem? Theres a check ball in the valve body that shrinks over time and gets sucked in. May cause D and R to be engaged simultaneously and can cause other nasty issues.

Solution is fitting the body with thicker check balls.

5HP30 is a VERY reliable transmission. There are only 2 general issues:
    - Check ball issue
    - Valve body crack issue on some variants (repairable if adressed early)

yes, I would also remove the valve body and change the balls, on every 5HP30 we open we change the balls and clean everything. See here from my Jap. wrenching buddy pics of 5HP30 overhauls, click on the left side 5HP30 in the index

we have seen 5HP30 with the check ball in another place because it was flushed thru the channels due to shrinking size, and we even did not find a ball at all. All of these 5HP30 we repaired by just cleaning, checking each solenoid, cleaning the solenoids, adding new ball.
A 5HP30VBK with all necessary and unneccessary parts costs you around $200, includes these parts http://www.thectsc.com/products/valv...p30-80-39.html

Usually a ball is all you need.
