Default Changed the oil, check oil pump and chain...

Been due a while and figured today is a good day to do it. Been putting it off because I wanted to pull the pan and check the pump bolts and chain. The chain wasn't real loose, surprised me actually. All the pump bolts except 3 were loose, those were in the oil pan. Tightened it all up and put in the new oil (0w-40 Import Mobil 1). Motor is real quiet now, will reboot the computer tomorrow after I get it warm to see if anything is different or better.

Funny thing is the lifters on the right side used to always chatter until I changed the valve cover gaskets then they went quiet. No clue what that was about. Anyways good for another 9K.

    The tensioner can be tightened?

Better be careful, if a tightened chain loads the guides any it might cause them to break up. Changing them is possible, and advisable at this age, but... requires pulling the whole intake, front of engine peripherals, cooling system... also, new gaskets, oil separator et al which makes the procedure quite costly $$$$

Or are you just yanking my chain?

The oil pump chain has no tensioner. I adjusted it to ~12mm play.

Not sure if copy paste works with pictures...

Ahhh Nice. Smart move whilst the bottom's off. Did you adjust using those (17?)mm nuts on the side- the big ones looking down?

Not much wear on that lower sprocket though, the teeth look nice and square. Not like an M30, perhaps the M60 is less hungry on chains and sprockets.

Its good now that Ed has fixed the picture limitations, I could never post anything before. So now you just drag and drop?

Very nice, and very good work Ed! Pics in posts will only represent 1/1000th of the bandwidth the ads use ;-), so long as people can't dump high res pics ie beyond say 1280 wide and 1280 high.

Not my pic, just something random off the net. Yes, loosen the bolt on the left which gives you access to a hexagon. That is the adjuster and the bolt locks it in position.
