Default 1990 E34 535i Passenger seat back twisting when tilting forward

    Hi guys

I have another curly one here so I hope I'm making the issue clear...
My passenger seat is twisting itself when moving it upright so that one side of the seat is closer to the dash than the other side... i.e. it looks like |\| instead of |_|

When reclined all the way back, it's back in alignment but as you start to move it the right hand motor does not engage for a couple of seconds but the left hand motor kicks in straight away which makes the seat twist.
I am assuming that there is 2 motors for the back or is something in there slipping?

I've tried brute force in the shape of a large burly neighbour with a large pole and got it almost straight but as soon as you use the electrics it goes back out of shape again.

So, my question is how can I get the seat to synchronise sides?

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

you have to cut the outer sheath of the bowden cable, see my website under fixes>>>seats>>twisted seat back

Very detailed link for something simple. Seat all the way back if you don't want to remove it is pull the cable on the limp side, pull the plastic sheathing out the screw in deal. Can use heat, can pull, chop 1/4 inch off and reassemble. Should be good to go. If still crooked you can use a drill to adjust the sides before you finish the job.

Done this so many times I don't remember the exact steps. It is really easy after the first time.

Sorry for not replying sooner but I managed to fix it the same day and it's working fine now...
I tilted the seat back, dropped the motor, hit the thimble with one of those "jet" lighters for a couple of seconds and it came right off - much happiness!
It took me longer to find my drill (it was hiding in the boot) to get it straight.

Thanks again for all the help - you guys are awesome!

    Cheers
    Dave
