A4S 270R, what does "Transmission wide stepped" mean?

I cant find the gear ratios for either the 270R or the 310R

Here they mention under E36 GM A4S 270/310 --> ZF 5HP18 auto conversion

    2nd gear – 1.62
    3rd gear – 1.00
    4th gear – 0.72
    At 110km/h Final drive 3.91 – 2632rpm

    ZF gear ratios
    1st gear - 3.66
    2nd gear - 2.00
    3rd gear - 1.41
    4th gear - 1.00
    5th gear - 0.74

I think it is just another word for ratio i.e. You can have a close or wide ratio transmission.

Having a wide ratio, say on first gear, can have its advantages. But when you come to a roundabout at about 15-20mph, you don't really want to be changing down to first gear. Don't know if you remember them but Vauxhall/Opel cars were like that in the '80s

    And the ratios are...

    Gear Ratios

    1st: 2.400
    2nd:1.467
    3rd: 1.000
    4th: 0.723
    Rev: 2.000

    Wide stepped:
    1st: 2.860
    2nd:1.620
    3rd: 1.000
    4th: 0.723
    Rev: 2.000

We have the 310R and the gearing is higher than the stock 270R so I am guessing that chart didn't include the "wide stepped" 310R or is for a specific year
