    Default E34 IHKR unit 6411-8 390122.4

    Guys,
I need some help, I have suspected for a while that the IHKR unit is faulty, I have tried ordering a new one but it is unavailable, does anyone know of a company that can check/repair them? Also if I manage to get a S/H one will it need coding to the car or is it plug & play.

    Thanks in advance
    John

Which continent or country are you from?
There is no coding, just replace it. Google search with 64118390122
    for example from Germany http://www.ebay.de/itm/Steuergeraet-...-/110737947519
part number 64118367951 superseeded part number 64118390122.
UK, check the plugs if same http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E34-HV...-/171557110577
Or a remanufactured one by Programa, then you are sure it works http://www.programainc.com/bmw/clima...118367951.html

    Thanks Shogun,
This forum is excellent, I am from the Western Isles, I think I have the only E34 left running on the island.

    Thanks again for your help.
    John.

Thanks, John. Then maybe you add this info to your profile, so we can see it, easier to help you, for example like my one

And as signature you can add the car details like for example 10/92 E34 520i (with "iA" if automatic transmission) with IHKR. On top click options, profile where you can change the settings and add those details.
Your car is a EURO model and different in various things from the U.S. model which most here have here, except the members from Australia which again have different versions.
You can find out the car details here with all the options with your VIN
    http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/
parts based on your VIN you can check here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?lang=en
and wiring diagrams (US versions) here http://shark.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/

    Guys,
Managed to get a good S/H IHKR unit, got it fitted as well as the Micro Filter, glad to say all is well in the heating A/C dept, but-----------always a but, the car has been laid up in my garage for 2 months due to other commitments, I fitted new calipers and mast Cyl while it was inside. Took it for a run today and its very erratic, hunting on idle, very slow idle and conking out alltogether, whilst running its fine but it was Ok before I laid it up, the other thing I noticed was that the rev counter looks sticky?? even when the engine is stopped the rev counter is at 750rpm?? any ideas where to look??

rev counter could be that the capacitors are empty and need to be replaced. Normally when you drive they are recharged, but as you did not drive a long time, they might be totally discharged, maybe they come back to life, otherwise

Erratic idle: first we have to know which engine you have!

    Many possibilties https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DugfgW5sOIg

No intake leaks? - ie, no holes, cracks, openings in the intake tract. Can be checked using a carb-cleaner - very carefully - that is flammable. Very small spritz' around each intake hose, the injector bases (injector seals are known to go bad with age), while the car is idling.. any change (ANY!) in idle speed indicates a leak.
