    Default Dr. Don's radio repair 95 525i

The stock radio in my 95 BMW 525i died. Believe it was the power supply As I did not want to replace it with a new flashy radio, I just sent it to Dr. Dons in Huntsville Texas and he restored it completely. He replaced power supply, belts, bulbs and lubed everything etc. for $195 including shipping. Shipped it and had it back in my hands in less than 10 days. Works perfectly. Understand he is a legend to the Corvette people.

Here is the link to his web site. http://www.doctordons.com/ He was also mentioned in the Roundel and Bimmer magazines. by Mike Miller in Tech Talk.

This is excellent and timely. I'm not happy with the look of the CD43 that the PO put in the Touring. If I'm going to have an old radio that you have to stick things into, it may as well be the original.

Since I've got the original radio, I'll have it rebuilt, then add an aux port myself (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=288698).

    Thanks for posting!

    Russell,
I'm thinking of doing the same thing and have heard of Dr Don. I just can't figure out if my problem is in my head unit or amplifier. I have a Pioneer head unit with the 6-CD changer in the trunk. Both front left and right speakers are out. Rear speakers work fine.
The sound system in my car was the best I ever heard when everything was working so I'd like to get it all back.
I didn't have any problem putting 8-track, am/fm radios in Vegas or the basic radio I just put in a 68 Malibu.
But external amplifiers and cross-over circuits confuse the hell out of me.

Any advice on identifying whether it's the head unit or amp?
    Thanks.

No help. However Dr. Don states the power supply usually goes before the amp. Mine would play OK from a cold start then quit in about 10 minutes.. Let cool for 10 minutes and would play for a minute or so. Just my experience.
    Thanks,
