    Default E34 525i Oil Consumption (M50 non-vanos)

My oil consumption is about 1 ltr. every 1500 kms. Other than external leaks, what are the other causes of consuming too much oil?
The car is on 120K miles on the clock.

The first thing I would change is the PCV valve unit. Not sure what it is called on your engine. Other will chime in on this.

That is way too much oil consumption. Usually it is the valve guides that are worn out... with this, usually you see a blue puff of smoke when you gun the engine. Your exhaust must smell really oily.

Yes, there's a blue smoke when during acceleration sometimes even in idling and oily smell in exhaust.

Have you sorted out your cat/O2 sensor yet? Maybe do a quick search for 'bore wash'

Not yet, purchase it on Ebay and it takes 2 to 3 wks. before receiving the item.

Redled... could you please tell us the history of the car... first starting with when you bought it and name all the problems you have on the car... how much you paid for it and how much you willing to spend on that car.

Sounds to me right now that this car is going to be a major pain... I don't think the mileage is accurate either.

I brought it 3 months ago for 180,000 pesos or $4,300. I already spend $1,900. for 4 shock absorbers, front upper control arms, valve cover gasket and 4 new tires. I don't how much to spend for the remaining defects. The lesser the better.

The engine runs fine, and the idling also, cooling system was good, no leak did not add any coolant.
You will not notice any abnormalities to the engine when running.

    Defects:
CEL still waiting for the part
Very high oil consumption and oil smell like gasoline
    Blue smoke on exhaust
Oil pan gasket need to replace

Fix your oil pan gasket first. Then we can find out how much oil the engine uses.

As Tiger mentioned above, the valve guides are very likely to be responsible for these effects. And, please change the oil pan gasket.
