It is indeed, a bastard of a job start to finish.

When I first went in there it took me ages at so many points as I kept thinking 'it can't be like this' and 'I must be doing it wrong' and 'it won't possibly come out this way, I must have to go in from the back, (eg. remove the dash) etc. LOL!

A baptism of fire in terms of fit and form.

Love the last pic, says it all:

At the time I substituted it for a Coopers Pale, I needed something with a lot more bite:

Damn, I don't like to hear this. I'm going to have to do this job sometime this summer and am dreading it.

I did this job twice in two weeks (crap ebay part). Its awkward, but not too time consuming. Don't be afraid to get some leverage under the metal tray (over the linkage) to temporarily give you some extra room. Wiggle it, just a little bit....

Oh, the pics shogun linked to are from a right hand drive, which changes the job slightly. Can't speak to whether its any easier or more difficult on our lefties.

best removal and replacement post I've seen yet. My 95' e34 has the wiper problem also. I start the car and they budge about 1/4" and freeze. I have searched and just can't find any relay pics or fuse-able links that my cause this. I will try pulling the linkage.

Pulled linkage out today. Passenger side was caked up with metal to other metal reaction. Brass bushing? Worked shaft out of the hole, light sanded both, light grease and WOW, linkage moves smoothly. Yes, I could have put in new rubber, etc; , but I just needed to get them working for now. A pita job, but this site saved me some major money for this repair. Thanks for all your posts and how to repair problems. I just recently bought the 95' 5 series-e34 M50 and fixed the overheating problem from reading posts here. That's why the old owner sold it!
