Default EDC self leveling shocks 1995 540i SPORT

How do you bleed the rear shocks after installing new ones?

There are differences in EDC systems. With and without LAD, the E34 540 has probably the expensive EDC III shocks with LAD self levelling system on the rear, same as my E32 750iL.
EDCI was used on early E32 till around 1990, EDCII was never used on E34 and E32, EDCIII on E32 later bult years and E34 Touring and M5.
EDCIII can be diagnozed with a diagnosis system, EDCI not.

Basically the system is self bleeding, but it takes some time.
You just reinstall it and top up the power steering fluid with Pentosin CHF 11S. The fluid should be green.

After you have started the car and run it for some minutes, turn the engine off, pump the brake pedal at least 20 times and recheck the power steering fluid level. It should be just showing about 3mm above the gauze inside the resevoir. The brakes, power steering & suspension run on the same hydraulics on my E32 750. Start the car again and the level should drop. Drive the vehicle for 5-10 km and repeat the oil level check.
    The Bentley Manual says

"To fill and bleed LAD System"
With the engine off, fill the power steering/LAD fluid reservior until the fluid level is approximately 25mm below the reservoir rim

Start the engine. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock two times. Turn the engine off.

Raise the car until the drive wheels are off the ground. Wait about 2 minutes and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be no more than 25mm above the base of the resevoir screen. Correct the fluid level as necessary.
    -----------------------
this makes it easier when the wheels are off the ground, on my LAD shocks there are on the bottom small bleeding holes which only open when the wheels are off the ground.
See also my website for adjusting the regulating valve and the rear height under fixes.

Default EDC self leveling shocks 1995 E34 540i SPORT

The power steering and shock system are separate and independant from the brake system, so pumping brake pedal will not help. I don't know what LAD is. My '95 540i Sport probably has the EDCIII shocks with the LAD that you mention. They cost about $1800.00 each. Even tho the one pump supplies pentosin CHF11 to power steering and the shocks, the systems perform independantly. If the shocks fail the steering still functions, I do believe. (I think there are two impellers on the pump shaft). There were only about 1500 of these 1995 540i SPORT's made, and only 200 of them sent to the USA. They are essentially a M5 except for the V8 engine.
What is the website that you mention? Any more sugestions or comments?

On my E32 750 the power steering and the brake system are not separate, the brake booster is hydraulic H31 system. That is why I mentioned that.
LAD is the same as SLS self levelling system, here shown on E32 and E34

it works 100% by hydraulic system.
