    Default Stop the rust

I've had my E34 for 14 years, mostly kept it from rusting. I just discovered an area at the bottom of the front fenders where dirt can accumulate, trapping moisture and cause rust. A very easy fix is to remove the the two screws at the bottom of the fender and pull the fender away from the chassis. You'll be amazed at the amount of dirt that is there.
After cleaning the area I sprayed it with some cold galvanizing paint to protect it.
I also drilled a small hole on the bottom of the fender to allow drainage.

Yes that is a bad spot for dirt to collect and therefore rust. It took me a couple years to find it and clean it up. Thanks for sharing.

Best to not drill holes, if you do they just fill with poultice. Need to be penny sized large and well finished/protected. Cold Gal isn't enough, you need to have several coats, well dried out in between- as it gets wet for weeks on end down there. A great place to apply POR 15 perhaps...
