door handle broke - didn't even realize.

I was swapping out the door handle rubber gaskets and noticed that the door handle assembly has separated in two places so that when I lift up on the handle, I lift part of the metal frame with it. I'm not going to bother replacing it until I can't open the door any longer, but I thought it was an odd break.

Maybe someone has forced it (in the up position)... who knows?
