If I recalled on my car... there is an oring slot on the plastic housing where the oring is supposed to sit in... T-stat has a nub that must line up with the housing. If it still leak, then the plastic housing is cracked.
Stupid question, but i changed the water pump on my 94 530it. Still has the plastic housing. When i took it off the t-stat fell out so i did not see how it was mounted. I put it spring side in the pump. when i put it back togeather im getting a bad leak at the bottom of the t-stat housing where it meets the pump without even starting the engine. Does not seem the housing is seating right against the pump. Which order does the o-ring and t-stat go in, and is there just the one o-ring? Tried it 3 times and each time it is leaking bad at static. Wifes car and she needs it for the weekend. Going to order the metal hopusing but that will take several days so im stuck. thanks

Was just looking on real oem and i see that a o ring goes in the pump and then one around the t-stat and that sits on the o-ring.. That looks like my problem, i left the one off the pump. When i get home from work ill try that. One thing i have learned from working on airplanes is that a cut or missing o-ring will cause massive leaks!
That sounds right... it has been so long since I took mine out.
Dont worry, at Fedex we only haul mail and packages. But working on a MD-11 a lot of times is easier than a BMW!
