Retrofit a cup holder

Anyone ever try retrofitting a later series cup holder into the ash tray compartment on a 5 or 7 series? These are collapsable so it will be out of the way. I don't smoke so the ashtray is a waste

The only problem is proximity to the shifter, but with e32/4, there is not much one can do about that... Would be very neat though. No doubt some intuitive person is thinking about it tho...

Has anyone give it a shot?
