Default removing crap from a cylinder head

I bought a second hand engine and it looks like the oil hasn't been changed in a while. So I dont want to put on my cylidner head that is clean ( I dont want to do the work), so I'll put a rag in there and try and clean it out with that (the best what I can do). Then I was thinking change the oil and filter about every 3,000 kms for a couple of times.

So what else can I to do try and make it clean again? I dont really know, I haven't encounted this sitation before.

Hmmm, letting it soak in kerosene somehow for some days would probably loosen most of the gunk!

There's a wynns oil flush/intensive clean iirc - we had a 535i a while back that looked like that. Running the oil cleaner stuff through for a day of running around sorted it right out...

However carb/brake cleaner will probably take that off, but you'll have to be really careful to make sure you get all of it back out - if it hits the oil it'll destroy it.

Have you thought of a detergent oil? Rotella maybe? Used it in diesels years ago to good effect. Sure they make a petrol range these days. Wouldnt use it all the time but for a one off purge it may be worth a look

Run a quart of transmission fluid with your oil change. It should clean the motor up without running the risk of hurting the bearings - like some of the other cleaners might.

Just use diesel oil for a while, diesel oil just has more detergents.
