Don't make the same mistake I did: Make sure your gear selector button works properly.

On Friday I was headed home from work. I was just pulling out of the driveway, going maybe 10 mph. The car was in D and I was going to shift to S3, when my hand slipped and pushed the gear selector lever forward. I think it only went into N, but may have gone into R. When I heard the engine rev I immediately slammed the lever back, probably into 2.

I didn't hear any loud noise, maybe a pop. The engine was still running and the computer didn't throw any codes, but the transmission wouldn't engage.

I called AAA and we towed the car to BT Fields, A BMW specialist in Signal Hill (Blocks from my apartment). He noticed that when you put the car in N, it would put a load on the engine?

Anyway, it's been a long weekend waiting for what he finds on Monday. New transmission or maybe the linkage is not aligned up. Say a pryer for my 93 E34.
