Sounds like you did pretty well... much better deal than the trade-in you were thinking about. Good luck with it!
Last week I posted about a 530 the dealer was willing to trade even for my Prizm. I decided against as the car was beat. I was looking on Craigslist and found a 525 5 speed advertised for a grand. I figured it was beat but had potential as a parts car so I went to see it. 208000 miles on it. The car was in fantastic condition inside and out. I was handed the keys and took it for a ride. It ran very good. So I had to have it. The people who owned it, 2 previous owner took exceptional care of this car. I recieved all service and maintenance records that showed how well this car was taken care of, many years of synthetic motor oil, and garage kept too. The interior looks like it was never sat in, perfect. Even with the high milage, I think I got a great deal on a straight clean well taken care of car. I want to thank all the people on this board for the support. I know I'll be asking for help from you all sooner or later.

Thanks Tim I'm working on posting a few pics for everyone to see. I did manage to get one on my sig, I'm still in the dark ages with posting photos and will add some to this post soon.
Thanks again Tim, this is the car.
Looks nice. Interior seats look in good shape. Looks like 16 inch mags... can't really tell. Or are they stealies with hubcaps?
Nice catch !
mags? the wheels? they look like the standard 15" bottle caps to me..

Looks like a fine deal to me. Now work on disposing that Prizm

$1000 for "fantastic condition" inside and out, 5 speed, exceptional care, garage kept, all service records, interior like never sat in, synthetic fluids, etc, etc?... almost too good to be true?... congrats!
