    Default "Check Control" Message

I receive and error message of "Check Control" when I drive my car 1990 535IA. It happens often and the manual does not lead me to any conclusion on what to do other than press the reset button. This does nothing and now I get a plus sign and sometimes get "owners Manual" The owners manual is not explicit enough and neither is the Bentley - or I just can't find it.

Any ideas on what to do?

It also gives me a "low beam" message too but I'm still waiting to find someone's head light "take offs" to replace mine with. Anybody have any of these they want to part with? The black frame and the headlights are cracked as is one corner amber light. Maybe another poist is in order for this.

Default As stated check the battery charge and replace if

needed , if that doesn't help , Remove the Check Control Module and clean the contacts with some deoxit d5 or stabilant 22. If it still doesn't get rid of the error I can dig up the repair procedure for the ccm that was on the old e32 board a few years back.
I checked my files and the repair for the CCM that Kevin had posted was for the ESD Regalt message error, other than that you just look for fine cracks on the solder joints on the circuit board

The check control error shows up when there is no communication between the c/c module in the front fusebox and the dash cluster. It could be that the module is dying or low voltage to it, as Tim eh? says.

You only need to replace the bulb in the headlight to get rid of the low beam message. Should only be $8-$10 for a 9006 bulb at the local parts store.

    and try reseating the lkm.

    it can casue CC errors.

First thing to do though is correct the low beam error. could be bulb, fuse, or bad solder on the lkm. Could be bad relay on the lkm also. they are dual throw L & R lowbeam in one relay body IIRC.

Thanks to all. I'll probably need a bit more info in regards to:
    locating and cleaning contacts
    resetting the LKM

I also need to look at the links that you guys have given me to see if that will answer my questions.

FTR: The Battery is new, less than a year. It was the first thing I purchased before I got the car so that I could drive it up onto the trailer. I'll go check my headlight post.
