Anyone have a used dual mass flywheel for a 535, 1992. The one I have is scored beyond recognition. I'll post some pics.
Some young punk, friends nephew, stole his car, and fried the clutch.
The car's got 230k+ miles on it, and good rust. Going to be that's friends daughters first car. The car still has life, but he does not want to spend the dough on a brand new flywheel.

I see three for sale at http://car-part.com under $100.
Or swap in the E28 flywheel. Easy swap, you need the flywheel, the 6 flywheel bolts and the E28 clutch kit. Had one for years in my car - no worries. Tad less off the line torque but slightly better acceleration and much better blip rev matching on down shifts.
If you haven't done it, great time to stuff in a new rear main seal.

90 535iM - not much stock remains. 3.7 liters, ported head, cammed, 3.73 diffy, M5 brakes, MAFed, yadda yadda yadda

i can probably dig up one if you can't score one closer
all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it
Thanks all.
I already have the clutch kit, so I'll have to stick with the dual mass. Great idea though.
You see the scoring on the flywheel pictured. Certainly sanding it down would never work, imho. Looks like metal was melted to the surface, and that seemingly melted metal on the surface has a knifes edge that would certainly chew up the new clutch rather quickly.
I have an email in with http://www.browningautoparts.com/asp...cator/part.asp to get a $65 one. We'll see what shipping that sucker will cost though!
Winfred, if it's not too much trouble, I'd pay you the same for a flywheel, that is, if you want?

Thanks Winfred, I have not heard from that other source yet anyway. Maybe you can still help.
Yeah, for down there, that surely is a lot of snow. Probably shut the whole town down I'm sure.

Has anyone ever attempted to take one of these apart?

Bimmer Ed can try... it is already trashed... how much worse can he do? LOL.
