Default E34 microfilter (cabin filter) - correct orientation

i'm trying to fit one in but what is the correct orientation - since there is a couple of possibilities?

    - there was no prior old filter in there to serve as a reference point.

the pictures in this forum don't have the right enough info for me to see the correct orientation.

In case tour car is a right hand drive, that is a bit more tricky, see here from Timm the info for the E32, same procedure

"Handle" tabs go in the cavity last, with the tabs pointing toward the engine. At least for us left-hand-drivers. Got the correct filter?
