    Default A/C Fuse 9

    Hey guys,

Tried searching for this but came up rather empty. Whenever I turn on my A/C fuse 9 blows. Pretty much all of the threads I found relating to fuses and A/C had a different one blowing. This randomly started a couple weeks back just before the hot weather came -_- Anything obvious I can check before I bring it to my indy?

There is also a small hose that goes to the front of the engine block that is cracked and due to be replaced soon (forget the name) but I don't believe it to be related.

try disconnecting your auxiliary water pump below the heater valve.

Disconnect the hose from the heater valve or electrically, or both? Newbie question I know... but I'm new to this =) I did successfully locate the thing at least...

I'm not Ross and I don't play him on TV, but I'd bet he's referring to the electrical connection for the aux coolant pump.

Because if the pump is partially/fully seized up then it'll draw a lot more current when it tries to get the pump going. And it's a good bet that a huge power draw like that overloads the circuit and blows the fuse.

The A/C fuse #9 actually has three circuits - horn, aux water pump and A/C. Same thing happened on my 92 525ia. What I did was to spliced in in-line fuses to the three circuits to insolate the cause. It turn out to be the aux water pump. The aux water pump is locate next to the fuse box under the water valve. My aux water pump seize up cause a over load to the #9 circuit. The electrical connector is located on top. Disconnect it as advise by Ross to see if the #9 fuse stop blowing. If it stop, then it is the aux water pump.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I fail at locating the right connector... I'm guessing it's one of these?

correct. It is one of the two. I believe it is the one on top of the pic. but I can't remember. The pump is underneth, it is a black cynlical pump, trace the lead to it and you've located the connector.

Alright, so I tried disconnecting that one tonight and firing up the A/C. Fuse 9 still blew. Horn seems to work fine before I hit the A/C button, and it seems like the compressor comes on.

So the horn doesn't work with the a/c on?
the horn relay is also fed from fuse 9.
