Thread: Flywheel ?

    Default Flywheel ?

I need to replace my clutch (after 165,000m) and have been told variously that: A. I absolutely will need to also replace the dual mass flywheel, B. If the flywheel is not torn up it can be machined and reused, C. the flywheel cannot be machined, D replace the DMF with a solid flywheel. Any input woould be appreciated.

The replacement DMF is running about $ 650 but I have seen a LUK oem replacement for as little as 375 (ebay). Any experience with the LUK parts?

    Thanks

My DMF has seen at least two clutches. Its worn down quite a bit, but the surface is smooth. I didn't hesitate to re-instal it.

A pretty reputable (so ive been told by others) indy tried to send mine off to be machined then determined it could not be saved while at the machine shop. I had to buy a $900 dmf (Dealer price - To his credit the indy tried to give me the op to get one on my own, but none on ebay or in any of dozens online parts stores at the time).

So I bit the bullet...$2,200 for the job including the flywheel (Wash DC area).
