    Default Emissions Problem

    Hi to everyone.

Just got result of an emission test done on my car today at a friend place.

    Here are the result.
    Car has no calytic converter.

    CO% Vol :5.53
    HC ppm Vol h : 304
    CO2 % vol : 11.8
    O2 % vol : 0.53

    Lambda 0.865
    No PPM vol : 75

Car is a 540iA 1994 withou calytic converters. None were fitted to the car. Its South African model.

what you guys think of that? my friend told me that am running a bit rich with 0.865 Lamda and the CO& is out of range completely because no catalytic converters are present.

Could it be spark plug giving that rich lambda

    Thanks

Whoa.. that's high reading... Worn spark plugs a couple of years old might be able to do that... but I would pinpoint it to O2 sensor for the biggest effect.

thanks for the reply. I think the car has no 02sensor cause it has no catalytic converter and as per ETK, no o2 sensor is listed for it.

Wow... no O2 sensor... then you got no way of fine tuning the mixture... looks like it is a normal operation of your car... so what's wrong with it?

Hmmm, isn't that CO measuring result gigabnormal even for a car with no cat???
I remember measuring results from my first car (1983. Audi 100 2.0) with no cat and a CO range was about 0,7 !
What about the fuel consumption ... ?

CO is in relation to HC... the more HC you create, the more CO there is... since this car is not our typical 540i... I don't know what to think is normal...

I know my cat equipped engine only produce 7 for HC and 0 for CO on treadmill emission test
