    Default VANOS / Non VANOS???

    My car is a '92 model 525i.

How do I know whether my cars has the VANOS engine or not?

What other changes came with VANOS? Timing belt / chain?

    Kthnxbye!

Vanos was built starting September 1992 manufacture date for the M50 engine. The manufacture date will appear in the driver's side door along with tire specs. There is also a tell tale on top of the engine: the front of it would have a bulge. Along with that, a few upgrades were introduced to the car such as wider mirrors - I don't know much about the other upgrades. I found out about the mirrors when I had a hard time finding replacement glass at a reasonnable price.

Just ran out to the car now. Car was sold in March 1992, so it would be non-vanos.

I read somewhere that the timing chain / belt or something changed as well??

Somebody else with a ZA E34! Check out this decoder. It will tell you the actual date of manufacture of your car etc. If your car is a '92 it will be the M50 with a timing chain. The chain wont break but it may stretch and jump ship: result is same as a broken belt. My guess is you will have air con, rear window blind, full leather etc. But I bet you dont have heated seats
