Possible fuel pump problems

I haven't been driving my 92 525 as much as I have an 84 528 for a daily driver. I was still driving my 92 a couple days a week. So, the last couple times I started my car, it ran a little rough, then smoothed out after about 10 to 20 seconds. When I went to start the car the other day, no go. Came back about 45 min later it started. I let it run for about a minute, shut it off, no start. It now hasn't started since. I checked the fuse and relay, they are okay. I don't hear any noise at all coming from the fuel pump. I have 11.7 volts at the plug with key turned on. Should the fuel pump make any noise at all? I can get a rebuilt fuel pump for $125 so that's not too bad. Is there anything else to check? BTW, I have searched, and even PM'd Dave M for some advice. Thanks,

Same thing happened to me a few months back.
I started with the filters, but ended up changing out the fuel pump.

I have 11.7 volts at the plug with key turned on. Should the fuel pump make any noise at all? I can get a rebuilt fuel pump for $125 so that's not too bad. Is there anything else to check? BTW, I have searched, and even PM'd Dave M for some advice. Thanks,

The pump doesnt run unless you are cranking the engine or its running. To test with engine off, you make it run by jumpering the fuel pump relay. You should then be able to hear it. You can also hear the fuel going through the lines under the bonnet too on mine when testing like this. IIRC pressure should be 51psi

Before I left from work, where my car is, I pulled the incoming hose to the fuel rail. Cranked the engine, no fuel. I'm making my jumper tonight when I get home. I only need the fuse holder part.

So I tested the pump with the jumper, no go. Checked voltage at fuel pump connector, got 12v. Looks like my pump is done. Just waiting for Mesa Performance to call me back with the rebuilt pump. I'm just glad I have the extra bimmer or I'd be screwed.
