Default What to expect - 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th gear miles/hour

Well, as i am planning to drive a used 530d Touring E39 with 184 hp, i would like to know what can i expect from it in terms of:

    Miles/hour

    1st gear - ? at ? rpm
    2nd gear, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear ?

Can you give approximately values for this ?

    Thanks!

If its like any other straight six bmw 5 series figure both needles vertical in 5th gear, meaning ~80 mph @ 3.5k rpm in fifth

edit: but its a diesel so the rpms will be lower and this assumption is then wrong.

    what does it matter???
you dont tell us if its an auto or a manual
i would expect it to be revving quite low at 60 mph in top gear maybe as low as 1500 rpm.Maybe a search(google) for magazine tests wouild be the best bet

it depends on the diff, if you have 4gang, or 5gang transmission, and of course, the transmission itself.

my 525i manual has a really long diff, and it's like:

    1st - 0-60kmh (0-40mph)
    2nd - 60-110kmh (40-65mph)
    3rd - 110-165kmh (65mph-100mph)
    4th - 165-210kmh (100mph-125mph)
and 5th as long as it goes.

    Here's how my 520i M20B20 works with 2.65 LSD:

    1500 RPM 4'th Gear 90 km/h
    2000 RPM 5'th Gear 120 km/h

On my ///M5, driving with a little spirit

1st gear is just to bump you off the stop.

    2nd will take me to 35 @ 4-5000 rpm

    3rd will take me to 55 @ 4-5000 rpm

    4th will take me to 70 @ 4-5000 rpm

    5th will take me over 90 @ 4-5000 rpm

Now if I cruise it, and keep the RPM's down in 2500 range

2nd will take me to 15-20 (keep'n up with the Granny's)

3rd will take me to 40

4th will take me to 50

5th will take me over 60

And if I run it over 5000-6000 RPM and really put some stink on it!

2nd will take me to 45 (chirp'n the shift & a little wiggle)

3rd will take me to 65

4th will take me to 85

5th will take me over 100

Vee ave vays of dealing vid your kind...........

147@4850 for ever is all I know! Oh, drops to 32mpg(uk) at that,or 47mpg@100mph.Best mpg is 53@68mph.Thats for a saloon but should not be that different.Drops a lot with dirty filters or cheap oil and tyre pressures also make a big difference.
