    Default Diff Oil - 93 525ia - Mobil 1 75w-90 OK?

Trying to decipher which diff oil is ok... translating the BMW term for reg oil....

So is Mobil 1 syn 75w-90 OK? Nothing fancy open diff think it's 4.10.

Required maintence for diff on my 95 (built 1/95) was change at 5,000 miles. Not sure but I believe then it was change every 60,000 miles. Always use synthetic for the 95s. Not sure of weight. Mine was FIRST changed at about 80,000, then again 30,000 later for good measure.
    Thanks,

The owners manual for mine('95)states "lifetime fill" arrgh. Bentley calls for BMW SAF-XO synth.
Personally, I would go with what you have suggested.

saf-xo is a 75w140. i have a 4.10 in my m50 automatic, and the mobil 1 75w90 proved to be a noisemaker without any additives. both advance auto and autozone sell mobil 1 75w140 for a couple of bucks over the price of the 90, i'd suggest you use that. with the proliferation of ford f-150s using 75w140 in the rear end, you shouldn't have that hard of a time finding the 140.

    so sorry

looking at the bentley pdf here says that open diff is xo, lsd is xls. xls is w140, xo is 90. at any rate, it would be worth your while to check the tag on your diff to find out the ratio and whether or not it is lsd. i put w90 into my lsd 4.10 and had noise--but mobil diff fluid is "thin" across the board anyways. just trying to save you some aggravation
